Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727). Historical portrait of Sir Isaac Newton, the English astronomer, physicist and mathematician. As an astronomer Newton invented the reflecting telescope. As a mathematician he proposed the binomial theorem and developed differential and integral calculus. As a physicist he devised the laws of motion, formulated the general theory of gravitation and wrote on optics.
