Dr Jerome Pamela, nuclear fusion researcher and associate leader for the JET project. He is standing in front of a scale model of the JET device, which can confine a hot plasma for use in fusion research. The JET (Joint European Torus) device is situated in Oxfordshire, England. It is part of the EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) initiative to research & investigate the viability of fusion power. Nuclear fusion is the joining (fusing) of light elements to form heavier elements, which releases large amounts of energy. It is hoped that fusion will be a clean, renewable energy source for the future.
