Linus Pauling (1901-1994), American chemist. Here, Pauling is campaigning against nuclear arms testing and arsenal, for which he won the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize. He also won the 1954 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his pioneering work on the nature of chemical bonds and molecular structures. Much of Pauling's work was key to Watson and Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA in 1953.
