Heinrich Irenaeus Quincke (1842-1922), German doctor. In 1895, he introduced the lumbar puncture procedure, to sample cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is used in diagnosing diseases of the central nervous system, meningitis, tuberculosis, polio and some cancers.
