Mary Shelley. Portrait of the English writer Mary Shelley (1797-1851). She is most famous for writing Frankenstein, which she completed when she was only 20 years old. The novel tells of a scientist who constructs a body from corpse components and gives it life by an electrical discharge. Mary married the poet Percy Shelley in 1814 and edited many of her husbands poems after his death in 1823.
