Yang Liwei (born 1965), China's first astronaut. Yang's spaceflight took place on 15 October 2003, aboard a Shenzhou spacecraft, launched by a Long March rocket. It was the fifth Shenzhou mission, and first to carry a human crew. Yang orbited the Earth 21 times, landing in Inner Mongolia. He was awarded the title of Space Hero from the Chinese government, and an asteroid has been named after him. Photographed in 2005, in Moscow, Russia.
