Danylo Zabolotny (1866-1929, right, seated), Soviet epidemiologist, with his colleagues at the the Microbiology and Epidemiology Institute, Kiev, Ukraine. Zabolotny was the first director of the institute, the world's first epidemiology research institute. He worked on diseases such as cholera, diphtheria, dysentery, plague, syphilis and typhus.
