Red clover (Trifolium pratense). A member of the Leguminosae or pea family, it is also known as purple clover. It is grown among crops for its soil enriching (nitrogen fixing) ability, and by gardeners as a pollinating insect attractor, especially of bees and butterflies. The flowers of the red clover are also used to make a yellow cloth dye.
