Sea holly (Eryngium maritimus). The flowering head with the surrounding spiky leaves have made the sea holly desirable as an ornamental plant. A long lived perennial of the Umbelliferae family, it can grow to almost 75 centimetres in height and is indigenous to Southern Europe.
