High-speed photo of a droplet of water above a liquid surface. When the drop first penetrates the surface of the water, it causes the formation of a crater, or "coronet". The sides of the crater collapse and the water rushes inward & up into a miniature column. As the column collapses, the droplet is momentarily suspended above the surface, as shown here, before it too falls back.
