Caption

Painted Lady Butterfly (Vanessa cardui) feeding on umbellifer inflorescence in Marloes, South Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. This is a long distance migratory species, migrating northwards from source populations in North Africa, central Asia and the Middle east to Europe, including Britain and Ireland. This individual has notches in the wings probably inflicted by birds while on the long journey from North Africa to West Wales.
