Rotaviruses. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of rotaviruses. They get their name from their wheel-like appearance. These viruses cause gastroenteritis and diarrhoea in humans, commonly infecting the intestines of young children. The viruses are transmitted in faeces. Negatively stained. Magnification: x60,000 at 35mm size.
