Paramyxovirus. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of paramyxovirus particles. The protein coat (capsid) of one of the particles has broken open, allowing its ribonucleic acid (RNA, orange strips) genetic material to spill out. Several members of the paramyxovirus group are disease-causing (pathogenic) viruses. These include the mumps virus, the measles virus (rubeola) and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes respiratory infections. Magnification unknown.
