BK virus. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of BK virus particles. This polyomavirus is common in the urinary tract of adults, where it lives without harming its host. BK virus has been found to cause the growth of tumours in newborn rodents but there is no evidence that it causes cancer in humans. Magnification unknown.
