Rotaviruses. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of two rotaviruses. These pathogens are named for the wheel-like appearance of their protein coats (capsids, green). Viruses in this group cause gastroenteritis and diarrhoea in humans, commonly infecting the intestines of young children. They are transmitted in faeces. Magnification unknown.
