Caption

Virus and antibodies. Computer artwork of a virus particle (purple) surrounded by antibodies (Y-shaped). Antibodies are assemblies of proteins that allows the immune system to identify and neutralise foreign objects in the body. They can either neutralise the pathogen directly by binding to an active region or tag them for neutralisation by white blood cells. Here, one is bound to a surface protein (upper centre), which will prevent the virus from recognising and binding to a host cell (bottom).
