Caption

Hepatitis B viruses. Computer illustration of hepatitis B viruses, a cause of liver inflammation. Some of their lipoprotein envelopes are seen cutaway, to reveal their protein coats (capsids, transparent). Inside the capsids are double helices of viral DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) genetic material. Hepatitis B is transmitted by contact with infected blood, for example through sexual intercourse or by blood transfusions. Symptoms include headache, fever, weakness and jaundice.
