Hepatitis A virus. Computer illustration of a hepatitis A virus, a cause of liver inflammation. Its polygonal protein coat, or capsid (red & green), lies within a lipoprotein envelope. The capsid contains the viral genetic material (not seen). On the surface of the envelope are glycoproteins (green circles). Hepatitis A is transmitted through infected food or drink. Symptoms include influenza-like symptoms of fever and sickness, along with jaundice.
