Caption

Human diseases. Artwork of a male silhouetted figure and a hypodermic syringe, surrounded by various disease-causing organisms. The syringe could be used to administer a vaccine or an antibiotic drug. The mosquito (Anopheles gambiae, upper left) transmits a parasitic protozoan when it bites, causing malaria. A pollen grain is seen at upper centre (orange), which can cause an allergic reaction (hay fever). The bacterium (Vibrio cholerae) at centre left causes cholera when ingested. The virus at lower right (red) is transmitted from the bite of certain animals and causes rabies in humans (hydrophobia).
