Groin abscess. Image 1 of 2. Abscess (reddened area) on the groin of a 6 year old girl. Abscesses are pus-filled infections surrounded and walled off by damaged and inflamed tissue. They can develop in any organ in the body as well as in the soft tissue beneath the skin. Those under the skin are usually red, painful and very tender. For the same abscess two days into an unsuccessful course of antibiotics, see image M108/476.
