Aspergillosis. Coloured frontal x-ray of the chest of a patient suffering from pulmonary aspergillosis. Aspergillosis is caused by spores of the aspergillus, a fungus normally found in decaying vegetation. To most people the fungus is harmless, but it can cause allergic reactions in people with asthma and infection for those suffering from other pulmonary diseases (tuberculosis, pneumonia etc) or with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of the infection include fever, chest pain, weight loss, blood in the urine and meningitis. Dependant on the patient's immune system it can lead to death.
