Pelvic adhesions. Endoscope view of a patient's pelvis with adhesions (centre) between the internal structures. The two white organs are the ovaries, the uterus (womb) is at upper left. Adhesions are growths of fibrous (scar) connective tissue formed as a response to tissue trauma. They often result from abdominal surgery. If the adhesions cause severe pain, obstruct the bowel or cause dysfunction of the reproductive organs, they are removed surgically.
