A young girl using an inhaler to control an attack of asthma, a disorder of the bronchial tubes which leads to breathing problems. A number of stimuli may combine to precipitate an attack including; allergens, exertion, emotions and infections. The sufferer experiences paroxysmal attacks of bronchospasm (a narrowing of the bronchi by muscular contraction) which result in wheezing and general breathing difficulties. The inhaler effects a rapid relief from these symptoms. It's aerosol mechanism administers a measured dose of a bronchodilator, an agent that widens the air passages.
