Asthma attack. Boy using an inhaler to treat an asthma attack. Asthma is a lung disorder where attacks of breathlessness, wheezing and coughing are caused by the narrowing of airways in the lungs. The inhaler is an aerosol pump that dispenses a bronchodilator drug to widen these airways and aid breathing. An asthma attack may be triggered by stimuli such as exercise or an allergic reaction to dust and pollen allergens.
