Girl with nebulizer. Mother assisting her four-year-old daughter, who is using a nebulizer for asthma relief at home. The nebulizer delivers a fine spray of a corticosteroid or bronchodilator into the throat and bronchial airways. It works using a pump which sends a stream of air across a chamber containing the required drug. The stream of air disperses the drug, which is then delivered via a face mask to the user. Bronchial asthma causes sufferers to have paroxysmal attacks of bronchospasm resulting in severely restricted breathing.
