Arthritis. Computer artwork of arthritis affecting the joints of the fingers. The pain and discomfort caused by arthritis is represented by red colouring in the joints between the phalanges, the bones of the fingers. There are many different types of arthritis, depending on the cause and the joints affected. The most common is osteoarthritis which results from wear and tear on the joints. This can be caused by genetic or metabolic factors, and occurs usually in middle age. Rheumatoid arthritis is the most severe and a disorder of the immune system. Other types include Still's disease & ankylosing spondylitis. Anti-inflammatory drugs help in treatment.
