Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of psoriatic arthritis in the synovial membrane lining the knee joint & showing cellular evidence of the disease: tongue-like microvilli covered with synovial cells. Psoriatic arthritis occurs in a small minority of patients suffering from psoriasis, a chronic skin disease in which itchy, scaly red patches develop on the elbows, forearms, knees, scalp & other areas of the body.
