Deformed finger due to rheumatoid arthritis in a 41-year-old woman. This type of deformity is known as a Boutonniere deformity. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints. Chronic inflammation leads to the destruction of the cartilage, bone and ligaments, which causes the joints to deform. Treatment is with anti-inflammatory drugs and physiotherapy.
