Kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra). This tree grows to 60 or 70 metres in height above the general canopy of the rainforest. Its fibres are very light and buoyant and are used in upholstery and previously in the production of life jackets. This individual tree is thought to be in excess of 800 years old.
