Bunion treatment. X-ray of a pinned foot that has had chevron osteotomy surgery to treat a bunion (hallux valgus). Bunions are swellings of the joint between the big toe and the first metatarsal bone, which causes the base of each big toe to project outwards and their tips to point inwards. A chevron osteotomy is where the first metatarsal of the big toe (upper left) is cut, using a V-shaped incision, repositioned and screwed into place.
