Breast cancer surgery. Image 19 of 20. Woman's breast showing a blue tracing dye on the skin. This dye was injected into the breast to enable the surgeon to locate the axillary (underarm) lymph nodes. In this procedure, malignant (cancerous) tumours were removed from the breast and axillary lymph nodes as part of a wide local excision (WLE) operation. For a series showing this procedure, see images M122/468 - M122/487.
