Breast cancer surgery. Image 3 of 6. Surgeon attaching metal guide clips to a malignant (cancerous) tumour that has just been excised from a woman's breast. The clips act as markers indicating the original orientation of the tumour when it was in the breast. In this procedure, tumours are being removed from the breast and axillary (underarm) lymph nodes as part of a wide local excision (WLE) operation. For a series showing this procedure, see images M122/491.
