Sebaceous cyst on the scalp. This cyst, also known as a wen, is caused by a blockage of a duct of a sebaceous gland in the skin. The gland continues to produce the wax-like sebum, and becomes enlarged. Such cysts grow slowly, and only rarely become infected or cancerous. Treatment in extreme cases is by surgical removal.
