Oral thrush. View of a mouth showing an infection caused by the yeast-like fungus Candida albicans. The soft palate & uvula are covered with small, white patches. This infection is commonly known as thrush (or candidiasis). Thrush commonly affects the vagina, mouth & respiratory tract. Candida albicans is normally present in the mouth and vagina, and is kept under control by bacteria present in these areas. Treatment includes using an antifungal drug such as nystatin.
