Stye (hordeolum) on the lower eyelid of a man. A stye is a pus-filled abscess caused by a bacterial infection of the gland at the base of an eyelash. The surrounding area becomes swollen, red and inflamed. Treatment includes bathing the stye in warm water, which can help to discharge the pus, and removing the infected eyelash. Antibiotic drugs can help to prevent a recurrence.
