Infected cyst. Close-up of a burst, infected sebaceous cyst on the surface of a 65-year-old male patient's skin. It appears as a red swelling with multiple discharging pustules, both pus (yellow) and blood (red) are seen. Sebaceous cysts form when the secretory gland associated with the hair follicle (sebaceous gland) becomes blocked. The formation of the cyst is harmless but the infection needs attention. Treatment is incision and drainage with a course of antibiotic drugs.
