Woman with a cold. Bored woman in pyjamas with a digital thermomter and medicines in the foreground. Painkillers (analgesics) can help to alleviate the symptoms associated with a cold, such as a headache, sore throat or body-aches. The thermometer is used to measure body temperature. A rise in body temperature above 37 degress Celsius can indicate a fever, where the rise in body temperature is part of the defence mechanism against a viral infection. It normally takes between 10-21 days to get rid of a cold.
