Oral thrush. Tongue of a 4 year old boy with oral candidiasis (thrush, pale patches), an infection caused by the fungus Candida albicans. C. albicans is commonly found on the skin and the mucous membranes of the mouth, digestive and respiratory tracts and the genitals. It is normally harmless, but the use of antibiotics or a suppressed immune system can lead to infection. Treatment is with anti-fungal drugs.
