Leiomyosarcoma on tongue. Close-up of the mouth of a 50-year-old woman with a leiomyosarcoma cancer tumour on the tongue. Leiomyosarcomas are malignant tumours of smooth (involuntary) muscle. They can occur throughout the body and are the second most common type of sarcoma (connective tissue cancer) to arise in soft tissues. They occur most often in the stomach, uterus, small intestine, bladder and prostate gland. Treatment includes surgery, radiotherapy and anticancer drugs.
