Skin cancer. District nurse preparing to dress the tumour of an elderly patient with basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. She is spraying an antibiotic cleaning solution onto the red and yellow tumour seen on the patient's hand. The tumour is too advanced to be cured but is regularly cleaned and kept covered. Basal cell carcinoma arises in the basal cells found in the deepest layers of the skin. It is treatable by surgery, cryosurgery or radiotherapy, if detected at an early stage.
