Skin cancer. District nurse dressing the hand of an elderly patient with basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. The cancer is too advanced to be cured but is treated with an antibacterial spray and kept covered. Basal cell carcinoma arises in the basal cells found in the deepest layers of the skin. It is treatable by surgery, cryosurgery or radiotherapy, if detected at an early stage.
