Colon cancer, endoscope view. Colon cancers arise from the epithelial lining of the intestines, and are termed carcinomas. Colon cancer, common in the developed world, is thought to be linked to a high-fat and low-fibre diet. Symptoms include constipation or diarrhoea, abdominal pain and blood in the faeces. If the cancer is detected early, surgical removal of the affected area may effect a cure.
