Caption

Lymphoma. Artwork of a kidney with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph tissue. Since the follicular structure of the nodes remains intact, this is a follicular or nodular lymphoma. The lymphatic system is a network of nodes (glands) and ducts that carry lymph fluid around the body. Lymph fluid contains white blood cells that fight infections. Lymphoma causes proliferation of these cells, although they are not fully functional, and it severely compromises the working of the immune system. This makes the patient susceptible to opportunistic infections, which may be fatal. Anti-cancer drugs may prolong life.
