Skin cancer. Image 1 of 3. Elderly male patient with a widespread skin carcinoma. The carcinoma (pink area) extends over his entire right arm and shoulder, as well as the right-hand side of his neck and chest. A carcinoma is a type of cancer that arises from epithelial tissue. The skin is one of the organs containing epithelial tissue. It is common for carcinomas to spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. Treatment for cancers that have spread involves radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy. For the same patient with a fungal infection, see images M131/514-515. Photographed in Africa.
