Caption

Secondary bowel cancer, pill camera image. This tumour is in the small intestine. It is a growth that has spread (metastasised) from its primary site in the colon, part of the large intestine. The primary cancer was a carcinoma, a cancer arising from epithelial cells, which line the inside and outside of organs. Colon cancer can be treated by surgical removal of the affected part of the colon, but once the cancer has spread beyond its primary site the prognosis is poor. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy may slow the cancer's growth and spread. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera swallowed to image the digestive tract.
