Neuroblastoma cells. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of cultured neuroblastoma cancer cells. Neuroblastoma is a tumour derived from primitive nerve cells, most commonly in the medulla of the adrenal gland. Here the cancerous cells have a rough surface made of abnormal cytoplasmic projections and are also growing in a haphazard manner. Neuroblastoma is a malignant tumour most commonly found in children. The cancer can spread via the blood stream into the bones and liver. Magnification: x500 at 6x7cm size.
