Hodgkin's disease. Light micrograph of a section through a lymph node showing nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's lymphoma. This is a malignant tumour which affects tissues in the lymphatic system, part of the body's immune system. The nodular sclerosing form causes bands of the fibrous protein collagen (green) to be laid down in lymph nodes, dividing the nodes into nodules (pink). The disease causes weight loss, lack of appetite and fevers, and the damage to the immune system means even minor infections may become life-threatening. The disease can be treated by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and can be cured if it is treated early enough. Magnification unknown.
