Lymphoma cancer. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from a patient suffering from a diffuse lymphoma, a cancer of lymph tissue. A proliferation of abnormal lymphocytes (white blood cells, small dark dots) is seen here. The production of abnormal white blood cells severely weakens the immune system, making otherwise harmless infections life threatening. Symptoms include swelling of lymph nodes, pain and enlargement of the spleen and liver. Treatment includes radiotherapy, anticancer drugs and bone marrow transplants. The chances of a cure depend on the extent of the disease. Many patients die from infections. Magnification unknown.
