Caption

Thyroid cancer cells. Light micrograph of cancer cells (in circle, left) in the thyroid gland. Normal lymphocyte white blood cells are seen in the square at right. The cancer cells are large and disorganised. The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland in the neck that secretes hormones that control the metabolism. Growth of the gland due to a tumour can cause voice changes and difficulty swallowing. Surgical removal of the gland usually effects a cure.
