Cancer research. Image 1 of 2. Normal cells. Light micrograph of a normal cell culture for comparison with precancerous cells (see M133/144). The cells (nuclei stained purple) have been grown in a petri dish in a laboratory as part of research into the causes of cancer. Photographed in the Health and Pollutants Laboratory of the INRS (the French National Institute of Research and Safety), Nancy, France. Tests are carried out here to establish the toxicity and cancer-causing properties of different materials, chemicals and pollutants.
